The MCU’s Hulk Problem Continues – A Review of Captain America: Brave New World pt.1

The guys (Kareem, Ken, Pat) are joined by guest Mayday for another episode that goes completely off the rails in the best way possible! We had a plan. We had topics. We promptly threw all of that out the window to follow the sweet, sweet siren song of the tangent.

Strap in as the four of them decide they’re better than Hollywood’s best and proceed to rewrite THREE different movies on the fly. Are their versions better? Absolutely. Should they be given millions of dollars to right these cinematic wrongs? Probably.

Then, just when you think you’ve heard it all, the conversation takes a hard left turn into the “Walkerization” of Captain America. Don’t know what that means? It’s when you have a zombie character in your cinematic universe stinking up the joint. Not quite dead, but not alive enough to do anything with.

And because it wouldn’t be a proper geek-out without it, the crew once again laments the fate of the green goliath. Just when you think the MCU couldn’t possibly mishandle the Hulk any more, they find a new and inventive way to do so with an entirely different Hulk character. Prepare for some passionate (and hilarious) frustration.

So, if you like your podcasts with a side of chaos and your movie commentary completely unhinged, this is the episode for you!

Show Notes

Guest: Mayday

The guys (Kareem, Ken, Pat) are joined by special guest Mayday, and what started as a plan quickly devolved into a beautiful, hilarious mess. This episode is pure, uncut tangents, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Show Notes & Timestamps:

[00:00:00] – Intro & Welcoming Mayday

  • The guys welcome Mayday to the show and immediately abandon their planned topics. The descent into chaos begins.

[00:04:30] – The Great Movie Rewrite

  • Somehow, the topic of disappointing movies comes up, and the crew decides they’ve had enough. They take it upon themselves to fix Hollywood’s mistakes by completely rewriting three different films from the ground up. The pitches are wild, the passion is real, and the results are… arguably better than the originals.

[00:27:10] – The “Paul Walkerization” of Captain America

  • In a galaxy-brain moment, the conversation shifts to the future of Captain America in the MCU. A truly mind-bending theory is born: is Marvel planning to “Paul Walkerize” Captain America? The guys break down what this means, how it connects to the Fast & Furious franchise’s handling of a beloved character, and why it’s both the most ridiculous and most plausible theory they’ve ever cooked up.

[00:45:55] – We Need to Talk About the Hulk (Again)

  • It’s an evergreen topic on this podcast for a reason. The crew once again dives into the tragic mishandling of Bruce Banner and The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They vent their frustrations, pinpoint exactly where the character arc went off the rails, and lament the powerhouse potential that’s been left on the cutting room floor.

[01:05:12] – Outro & Plugs

  • The guys wrap up, thank Mayday for surviving the beautiful chaos, and sign off.

EP.119 – Don't Trust Billionaires – A Review of James Gunn's Superman pt.3 Tangential Giants Podcast

The Tangential Giants return for their third strike at reviewing the three-quarter mark of James Gunn’s Superman, and somehow, the chaos only gets more refined with age. Kareem, Ken, Pat, and guest Tim settle in to talk about the movie, but as always, tangents emerge like uninvited cousins who still somehow run the show. This time, the crew dives into how the fictional citizens of Metropolis and the very real citizens of the United States share a troubling weakness for any rich guy with a shiny suit and a PR team. From there, they spiral into a celebration of Guy Gardner’s comedic menace as Green Lantern, because apparently the universe needed a man who is equal parts hero and walking HR violation.Naturally, the group also questions the logistics of a pocket universe prison. Is it science, magic, or just James Gunn saying, " Trust me and hoping no one asks follow-up questions? The Giants ask them anyway. And that is only scratching the surface of the detours they take while trying to talk about Superman’s journey. If you enjoy passionate nonsense, comic book philosophy, and four grown adults trying to make sense of a movie that refuses to stay on the rails, this episode is your comfort food.
